i didn't know my mom is now a history major... :)
"LOOKING BACK- Speaking of heroes: This February is the birth & death anniversary (Feb 17, 1862- Feb.25,1897) of one of our hero in Phil.history who is close to my heart. He is not a popular hero. We can only see his name in the major streets of Quiapo, Bangkal Makati, & Cavite city. The largest military camp in Mindanao was also named after him. He is my great granduncle, General Edilberto Evangelista, the first Filipino civil engineer graduated with highest honors in architecture & civil engineering from the University of Ghent in Belgium. He designed & built fort, barricades and trenches in Zapote & other parts of Luzon. At a young age of 16, he finished his Bachelor of Arts at the Colegio de Sn Juan de Letran & awarded excellence in mathematics. He studied medicine at The University of Sto. Tomas; went to Spain & studied at the Polytechnic School in Madrid; then later took engineering at the University of Ghent. He came home in Sept, 1896 to join the revolution & fall on Feb.17,1897 after successfully defending Zapote. His youngest brother, Julian Evangelista is the father of Encarnacion Evangelista Fajardo ( my father's mom)."
